Reaching Out for Mental Wellness Support Can Feel Complicated
Together We’ll Make Sense of Why You’re Here and What Role Medication Can Play
Julie Megler • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Let’s reframe the way you are approaching your mental health.
When your system can't get traction, no matter how much effort you've put in, it’s a signal that something is missing from your mental wellness picture.
Medication, applied in the appropriate context and dose, can help you find your baseline that allows the rest of your work to garner results..
I feel like I’ve tried everything. I feel like I should be able to handle this on my own.
Medication management is a tool that supports your efforts and complements a healthy lifestyle, psychotherapy, and holistic modalities.
Which feels closest to where you are right now?
You feel like you’re doing the work, and you’re not getting traction.
You are engaging in:
Therapy
Lifestyle changes
Real effort over time
Still, you’re not making the progress you’re hoping for. The pieces aren’t connecting, and you’re unsure what is left to try.
You're so overwhelmed right now that you can't access what would normally help.
You understand that there are tools to support your mental wellness, but you’re unsure how to access them. Getting through the day is where your effort and attention is applied.
In both scenarios, careful psychiatric support and medication management incorporating minimum effective dose can shift that stall into tangible results and growth.
Services at Holistic Roots Psychiatry
I focus on a holistic, inclusive approach to care that considers a range of therapeutic techniques from psychiatric medication and psychotherapy to Eastern practices and expanded states of consciousness. My expertise lies in medication management, and I work with each individual to develop a personalized plan that reflects their needs, their lifestyle, and their goals.
I do not offer or encourage services for illegal expanded states.
Holistic Psychiatry
This is the foundation of my practice and how I can support you. We start with a thorough intake that includes conversation about what's been occurring, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping for. I focus on depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and trauma-informed care.
My sessions are longer than you may be used to, as I build in enough time to listen and converse as I assess and prescribe.
When we decide together that medication is the right fit, I prescribe at the minimum effective dose, and we adjust carefully over time.
I remain in regular contact with your therapist or other providers throughout our work together as needed.

Life Transitions
Significant life transitions like a career shift, the end of a relationship, grief, or a health crisis can be disorienting. Psychiatric support can play a role in navigating and moving through your experiences.
In my own life, I’ve navigated significant transitions including health crises, selling my business, and managing grief. Each experience has deepened my understanding of effective support for life transitions and informs how I work with clients in similar seasons.
Like my other mental health services, the process to support life transitions begins with a Holistic Psychiatry Intake.
Ketamine-assisted Therapy
For clients who haven't found adequate relief through standard treatments for depression, anxiety, or trauma, sublingual ketamine-assisted therapy can help individuals access what other approaches may not reach for them.
I offer three-hour KAT sessions. Before the first session, you’ll complete an intake. Then, prior to the 3-hour KAT intensives, we will work together in 50-minute preparatory sessions, sometimes two but preferably four.
The preparatory sessions are necessary before embarking in an altered state of consciousness together to:
Discuss goals
Develop intentions
Build Rapport
Integration sessions occur after each KAT session, and I require a minimum of 2 integration sessions to fully support your experience.
I request that clients commit to a series of 3 KAT sessions, with associated preparation and integration sessions, to allow for sufficient experience with Katamine.
This allows us to evaluate if KAT is supportive of your treatment goals.
Like my other mental health services the process for KAT begins with a Holistic Psychiatry Intake.
Integration Support
If you're preparing for or returning from a psychedelic experience, the work that happens before and after matters just as much as the experience itself.
I offer 50-minute preparation and integration sessions for clients working across a range of psychedelic contexts:
Ketamine-assisted therapy
Self-guided models
Peer-to-Peer
Ceremonial
Group environments.
Like my other mental health services, the process for psychedelic integration support begins with a Holistic Psychiatry Intake.
My background over 2+ decades includes intensive experience with Southern Traditions and plant dietas, clinical ketamine work since 2017, training in ketamine-assisted therapy through the KRIYA Institute, and MDMA-assisted therapy through MAPS.
I've had the opportunity to teach at Psychedelic Science, the California Institute of Integral Studies Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research, and the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics, work that continues to inform how I support clients navigating these experiences
I do not offer or encourage services for federally illegal expanded states.
What happens first when we work together?
The intake is our starting point in working together for any of my offered services, including KAT and life transitions. This full clinical appointment includes a thorough conversation about what's brought you here, what you've already tried, and what you're looking for. We begin with a somatic check-in and move into a dialogue from there.
By the time we finish, you'll have a clear sense of my observations, the options available, and what a next step could look like.
For those who prefer to connect briefly before booking an intake, a 15-minute introductory call is available for $100.

What our work together is not.
If you're looking for a prescription-only approach or are uninterested in exploring lifestyle and therapeutic factors alongside medication, Holistic Roots likely isn't the right practice for your goals and trajectory.
At this time, I do not provide care for stimulant prescriptions.
Ready to have a conversation about what's going on?
Your first appointment is a full, clinical intake appointment that begins our conversation about what kind of support makes sense. We will talk through where you are today and determine what the next steps are moving forward.
